Doğuş University is a public research university located in Istanbul, Turkey. It was founded in 2006 to provide a modern university education to the citizens of Turkey- in so doing, it aims to address the shortage of university graduates. It has over 50,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and offers more than 100 academic programs. Some of the university’s notable alumni include Fuat Atakav, the dean of faculty and Rıdvan Sahakyan, a professor at the university.
Doğuş was founded in 2006 with a $1 billion budget from the Turkish government. The first president of the university was professor Rıdvan Sahakyan, who is also an alumnus of the university. At its inception, Doğuş had 50,000 students applying for admission. The university has undergraduate and postgraduate programs and emphasizes research as part of its educational ethos. It has nine faculties, 20 schools, 49 departments and colleges and an institute.
Among its notable facilities are a natural sciences center, technology park, sports center, art center, student life center and a library with over six million books. There are also several restaurants on campus where staff and students can eat free food during meal times. All of this expensive equipment helps students learn but doesn’t seem to translate into good teaching methods or successful degrees.
Apart from its modern research facilities, Doğuş also has strong natural sciences and engineering departments. It has an Institute for Natural Sciences that conducts high-tech research on biology, geology, oceanography and climate change; as well as an Engineering Faculty that conducts research on computer science, civil engineering, industrial engineering and information technology management. In addition, Doğuş also has a Health Sciences Faculty with twenty departments including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing.
Aside from its state-of-the-art facilities and strong natural sciences department, Doğuş’s student life is also impressive. There are dozens of clubs and organizations for students to join- including political parties such as CHP (Republican People’s Party) and ANAP (Republican People’s Alliance). There’s also a service organization for volunteers called IYSA (Youth Service Society), which is full of social activities such as cooking classes or film viewings. There’s even an alumni association where current students can meet their former peers to make new friends.
The University of Cambridge in England named Doğu Sanchez University as one of its top universities in 2016 because it was so prestigious; over 150 Nobel laureates are among its alumni. From its inception in 2006 to this day, Doğuş has become one of the most popular universities in Turkey- despite its high tuition fees. Apart from its state-of-the-art facilities and strong natural sciences department, Doğuş’s student life is also impressive. Its location in one of Europe’s most prominent cities makes it accessible by both air and land transport systems to other countries within Europe. Whether you’re looking for a degree or just want to sample some great student life away from campus, Doğuş University may be right for you!
