Gedik University is a university in Istanbul, Turkey. It was established by the Ottoman government in 1878 as the Imperial College of theology; it was later renamed the college of theology. Its name was changed to Gedik Hall College in 1908. The college was later renamed Gedik University in 1965 by decree of Turkish President Ataturk.
Gedik University is one of the oldest public universities in Turkey. It is also one of the largest public universities in Turkey in terms of enrollment. It has ten faculties and offers different subjects at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Students from all over Turkey apply to study at Gedik University and receive financial aid from the government when they do so. Students from rural parts of Turkey have more success at getting into and graduating from Gedik University than students from urban areas.
Students who want to study at Gedik University must apply through their regional Kadro system. They must then take an entrance exam before being admitted to the university. There are around thirty thousand seats available at Gedik University each year, which is less than half of the total number of seats available at all Turkish universities. Over 95% of college graduates choose to further their education and attend university; many choose to study at Gedik University because they are affordable and provide good education.
Gedik University is located on the Asian side of Istanbul between Sisli neighborhood and Levent neighbourhood on the European side. The university is a large complex with many faculty buildings and departments spread across various campuses in the city. All of its campuses are very modern with green spaces and parks for studying or relaxing after classes end for the day. In addition, there are plenty of cafeterias where students can eat a hot meal during their studies; this is a very nice benefit that most universities don’t have these days.
Gedik University is an excellent university with modern facilities and generous financial aid for poor students from rural areas of Turkey. Students from all over Turkey apply to study here and succeed at getting into and graduating from this prestigious university.
